Hello and Thank You for visiting our wedding website.
On Saturday August 18 of 2007, we got married at our church: Humble First Assembly of God in Texas.
Following the church ceremony was an extraordinary reception planned and put together entirely by my lovely bride with a little help and some input from the Groom of course :)
The celebrations however started much earlier then that. Thursday night was the evening for the Bachelor as well as the Bachelorette parties. After a separated party, we all met up and finished the night together.
The next morning, Friday August 17 of 2007, was the morning of the Traditional African Ceremony where Jos goes to Anna's house to ask for her hand in marriage. Jos was accompanied by a large portion of his family and friends who flew in from Holland, as well as some local friends. As Jos arrived at Anna's house and the father of Jos knocked on Anna's door, the ceremony officially began. Jos brought many gifts including a white bible and a ring. After "negotiating" and presenting these gifts, two "Anna's" with their faces covered were brought down one by one. After declining these deceptions, the real Anna was eventually brought downstairs (with her face covered) and the formal question was asked: "Is this the one?" After revealing Anna's face, Jos answered "Yes, this is the one I'd like to marry!!!" Then the celebrations began and we enjoyed delicious traditional food and cool drinks :)
After the Traditional African Ceremony, we both went into madness-mode. Planning your own wedding has it's positives, but it is madness :)
Friday afternoon we had our Church Rehearsal for which again we thank the bridal party as well as Mr. & Mrs. Pool of Humble First Assembly of God for their time and patience.
Following the Church rehearsal was an unofficial rehearsal dinner at the hotel, thanks again Kim Chenevert and Family!
Both of us didn't get more then 2 hours of sleep that friday night. Not necessarily due to anxiety but just because there were so many last-minute things to do. We both had people on our sides to support and help us which I cannot stress enough, is very much appreciated, so thank all of you, you know who you are.
Despite all the help we got from both our families (who all flew in from all over the world), the many wonderful local families that have become our friends, as well as our friends from everywhere, there were still a 1001 things to do yourself as Bride and Groom in the final hours before the wedding day, not to mention the day of the wedding itself. In the end though, all the blood, sweat, and tears were all worth it.
Those that have been through their own wedding before will probably agree, your wedding day is the one day (or one of the very few) where almost everybody that loves and cares about you and that you care about and love is there in one place, just for you. The moment we were introduced and walked into our beautifully decorated reception hall (thanks Balloons by Linda) and had our first dance, we were both very overwhelmed. For both of us, this was one of the highlights, as we slow-danced in a circle, we were both getting a 360-view of the entire hall which was filled with love and support. Everybody was standing up and all eyes were on us. This was also the first time we both saw the fully decorated hall. Like we said, all in all, it was very overwhelming and those few minutes was one of our highlights and will stick in our memories until death and far beyond. Of course there are many many other highlights and beautiful memories but it's time to end this little introduction and enjoy the pictures. You'll find the links on top of this page. Enjoy!
